How Your Money Mindset Keeps You in Financial Struggles
How Your Money Mindset Keeps You in Financial Struggles
Many people know the right things to do with their money, but they keep doing things that keep them struggling financially. I was a such a person.
My Story
I learned about money in my early twenties, soon after college. I read books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and Think and Grow Rich, among others. I had experience working with a microfinance institution and a bank as a lender.
I set myself a goal to have one million shillings saved by the time I was 30 years old. Unfortunately, at 30, I had more debt than savings.
My experience as a lender opened me up to the reality of my weaknesses with money. My clients would take one loan after another, and topping up was the norm rather than the exception. They had very many reasons they needed yet another loan.
Some of my clients would bring their spouses for me to explain why they didn't qualify for more loan top-ups! I quit the lending job because too much empathy for my clients affected me.
I needed to research why people spend as they do and eventually get debt-trapped.
- Earning more will not solve your money problems
- Working hard is not enough
- Having a great budget will not save you
- Spending less is not the solution
- Studying more will not help you
- Affirmations will not work
Money Roadblocks
The biggest culprit in money problems is the mindset. You are living the life your subconscious mind wants! Your logical mind may want something different, but familiarity is your enemy. The subconscious mind is familiar with struggle and lack. The following contribute to your money blocks:
- You believe it is wrong to have more than enough while others around you are struggling.
- You've made bad decisions that make you afraid of risks.
- You see the rich as wicked (even if you no longer believe so).
- You see money as the root cause of evil.
Discovering Your Roadblocks
In my struggle with money and discovering myself, it was shocking to learn that I feared money.
My mother often talked negatively about rich people. I listened to sermons that glorified poverty and bedevilled riches. My subconscious associated wealth with evil, even though I consciously desired to be rich.
Discovering my money roadblocks helped me deal with them. I opened myself to accepting abundance.
Discovering your money roadblocks will help you address them. God designed the universe to work on systems. Money works on laws, and you must apply them, consciously or subconsciously, to be financially free.
Mindset Shift
If you do things the same way, expect the same results. But if you want to change, you must change your outlook and how you do things. You will have to:
- Stop doing what isn't working
- Discover your money blocks
- Remove the money blocks
- Take inspired action towards success.
